Social programme

Our social programme helps you make the most of studying abroad.

Involvement in non-academic activities will enable you to learn about British culture, explore Newcastle and the UK, and make new friends.

Social activity programme

While the main reason for coming to Newcastle is to study, involvement in non-academic activities is also important to help you adjust to life in the UK and develop a network of friends. We organise a programme of regular activities that help you make the most of your time in the UK.

The programme is run within the INTO centre, and includes trips to places of interest in Newcastle and the north of England, as well as visits to the theatre and cinema.

Recent trips have included:

  • Trip to York
  • Trip to Edinburgh
  • Indoor rock climbing
  • Visits to Newcastle's two premier league football stadiums
  • Trip to Alton Towers theme park
  • Trip to the Lake District

There are always activities going on in the INTO Centre as well. The INTO football team provides students who like sports with a great chance to meet new friends, play against other university students in the University's intra-mural league and understand why the British love football so much!  The matches take place in and around the city of Newcastle every Saturday afternoon and you can follow the team's progress each week on the sports centre website.

In addition, there is an INTO Choir and the INTO Philharmonic for students who enjoy taking part in music. There is also an astronomy club, regular movie nights, celebrations for Hallowe'en and Chinese New Year, and also a weekly Thursday Club, which provides students with a great chance to relax, chat with friends and have fun.
