What will I study?

You will study the following modules:

English for Academic Purposes

This module is designed to help you develop your skills and confidence in reading techniques and academic writing styles. The module covers the organisation of ideas, the planning, revising and editing of written work, integrating the ideas of others into your work using both citation and referencing, as well as how to use dictionaries, thesauri and other study aids to assist with appropriate vocabulary choices.

Study and Research Skills This module is designed to help you develop university-level study skills in making notes from academic texts, organising lecture notes and interpreting data. You will also gain teamwork, problem-solving, time management and examination skills, as well as develop competence in core ICT skills
UK Institutions and Culture This module will enable you to understand the country in which you are living and studying by looking at topics such as government and politics in the UK, Britain and the European Union, legal institutions, geography and sociology of the UK and the North East, business in the UK, culture and the UK education system.
Management and Organisation Increasingly the effective management of people is a sustainable source of competitive advantage. This module will cover the main principles of management theory and help you to develop an understanding of organisational behaviour theory and its relation to management within organisations.

 

You will have the option of studying the following modules:

Economics Economics is the study of how society allocates limited resources between competing claims for their use, both now and in the future. The module will focus on the distinction between microeconomics and macroeconomics and the underlying basic economic problem of scarcity.
Social and Cultural Studies This interdisciplinary module explores a range of issues, including a study of the North East of England, from geographical, sociological, political, historical, cultural, artistic and literary perspectives.

How do I qualify?

Academic requirements:
  • Pass in an undergraduate degree ( as approved by INTO Newcastle University)
  • Diploma (3-5 years) with good grades (as approved by INTO Newcastle University)
  • a minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience will be required for applicants intendeding to progress onto the MBA
English requirements:

Minimum of IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in writing) or an equivalent score.

For students progressing to Newcastle Law School:

A minimum of IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in all subskills) or an equivalent score

In exceptional circumstances, some students with a high level of English on entry may be allowed to take only 20 credits of English and take an additional 20 credit module to make up the total of 120 credits for the programme.

Age:

17 years and above

All students commencing courses on a published September start date must be 17 years old by 31st December of that calendar year. For all other start dates, students must be 17 years old on the published start date of the course.

Tuition fees do not include text books - an additional charge in the region of £160 per academic course

Tracking your progress

Assessment is both formal and informal, designed to help students build on their successes and meet requirements for entry to postgraduate study. Assessment of English language and communication skills will be based on written assignments, oral presentations, interviews, and written examinations.

Academic assessment

Assessment of academic modules will be based on

  • written assignments
  • group project work
  • oral presentations
  • written examinations

Research assessment

Assessment of the research component will be based on the final written version of a research project.

Success means

If you successfully complete the relevant Graduate Diploma programme at INTO Newcastle University, and meet the required scores for entry to your selected degree programme, you will be guaranteed entry onto designated postgraduate degree programmes at Newcastle University. You will also be able to apply to other universities in the UK.

 

In order to successfully pass the Graduate Diploma you will need to achieve an average mark of 40 per cent overall in your academic modules, and 60 per cent in the EAP module. In order to successfully progress onto your chosen postgraduate degree programme at Newcastle University, you will need to achieve an average mark of 60 per cent overall in your academic modules, with no module less than 50 per cent. In addition, you will need to achieve a minimum of 65 (IELTS 6.5) in English for Academic Purposes.

For progression to the School of Law, you will need to achieve an average mark of 65 per cent in your academic modules, with no module less than 60 per cent. In addition, you will need to achieve a minimum of 70 (IELTS 7.0) in English for Academic Purposes.

We aim to reply within 48 hours, although this is dependent on us receiving all the required information.

To reserve your place at INTO Newcastle University you will need to return all application forms mentioned above with £1,000 tuition deposit and £3,000 accommodation deposit.
