INTO Study Abroad with English
Study Abroad with English offers a long-term course that combines English language study with the chance to study undergraduate or INTO academic course modules. The course can be customised for different levels of English and specific academic interests.
Course description
You will study full-time English for one or more terms, depending on your proficiency, in order to reach the level needed to follow your selected academic modules. Once you have reached the required level, you will have three options. The first is to study undergraduate academic modules (up to three, one of which will be English). The second is to study academic modules that are part of INTO academic programmes. The third is to study on a mix of one and two. If you have gained the prior approval of your home university you should be able to use these modules as credits towards your home degree.
For university modules, you will need to reach the equivalent of IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in the writing subsection. For INTO University of Exeter academic modules, you will need an English level equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or 6.0 (depending on programme).
Course breakdown:
Part 1
Full-time intensive study of English language and study skills at INTO University of Exeter to the level required for studying academic modules. You can join the course at different entry points, depending on your language level and individual itinerary.
Part 2
Studying individually selected undergraduate academic modules at the University of Exeter alongside UK and international students, or academic modules at the INTO Centre on academic programmes. You can select academic modules from a wide variety of subjects in consultation with your personal tutor and the University’s International Office. Academic modules from INTO’s programmes run on a termly basis. You can choose from a maximum of three subjects including English.
Choices available will depend on what you have studied previously, your academic level, standard of English and the availability of places. Please note that University modules are offered subject to availability and may be substituted with an appropriate INTO module (subject to availability).
Each module requires at least two hours’ contact time per week and extensive reading, independent research and preparation. Modules run in accordance with the University’s or the Centre’s academic calendar, and may require additional weeks of accommodation.
